Le portrait d’une femme hors du commun, originaire de la montagne libanaise. À la fois mère de famille et mystique, elle poursuit le projet de devenir une sainte. Chaque Vendredi saint, elle revit simultanément la Passion du Christ et les douleurs de Marie. Icône vivante, elle est offerte au regard et au toucher de centaines de fidèles. Elle brouille les frontières entre sacré et profane, féminin et masculin, parent et enfant, passé et présent, image et personne.
Catherine, Body of the Passion is the portrait of an extraordinary woman. Native of the Lebanese mountain, housewife and mystic, Catherine pursues daily the project of being a saint. Every year, on Good Friday, she simultaneously revives Christ’s Passion and Mary’s suffering. As a living icon, she offers her own body to the sight and touch of hundreds of worshippers. She blurs the border of sacred and profane, female and male, parent and child, past and present, image and living person.
Anthropologue, Emma Aubin-Boltanski est membre du Centre d’études interdisciplinaires des faits religieux (CNRS-EHESS). Depuis 2009, elle travaille sur des femmes mystiques chrétiennes vivant au Liban et en Syrie. Catherine ou le corps de la Passion, réalisé en collaboration avec la vidéaste Rania Stephan, est le portrait de l’une d’entre elles.
