: Francophone Literature of the Maghreb

Affiliated faculty for the Council on Middle Eastern Studies and the Council on African Studies at the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale.

Research and Teaching Interests: Maghrebi literature in a Mediterranean context; literature of the Maghrebi diaspora in French, Spanish, Catalan, Italian; Mediterranean studies; Orientalism; postcolonial literary and cultural theory; non-Western modernities and transnational modernisms.

Current Courses:

Undergraduate (all cross-listed with MMES): Introduction to Postcolonial theory and its Literature (also cross-listed WGSS, AFST, LITR); The Algerian War of Independence and Literature; Introduction to Maghreb Literature and Culture; France and the Islamic Orient.

Graduate (eligible for the graduate certificate of concentration in Modern Middle Eastern Studies): Writing the Nation in Maghrebi Literature; Francophone Colonial Literature of the Maghreb.
