Exam Dates: March 15, 9 am EDT to March 26, 5 pm EDT.
Online Preference Selection (for Fall 2021)
Tuesday April 6th, 9 am to April 21, 5 pm EDT
Graduate and professional students cannot access Preference Selection. They should contact the Language Program Director: ruth.koizim@yale.edu(link sends e-mail) (until June 30, 2021) with their course section request.

After entering your Yale NetID and Password, you should select the specified number of preferences from a list of available sections for your assigned level. Try, if you can, to choose different time slots. The computer will assign places randomly, taking your preferences into account.
Section assignments will be available by 5PM on Friday, April 30, 2021.
*It is your responsibility to verify your section assignment.
To secure your place in the section, you must attend ALL class meetings, including during the Drop/ Add period.
If you missed Preference Selection or were not assigned a section, or if scheduling changes make it necessary for you to switch to a different section, you should contact the appropriate course chair. You should also continue to attend a section of that course until you are sure to have a place in another one.

General Information for Online Testing
Dates for Online Testing
- Early Placement Testing for Fall 2021 (Returning Students Only): Monday, March 15 at 9:00 am (EDT) through Friday, March 26 at 5:00 PM (EDT)
- Placement Tests for Fall 2021 Semester (Tentative): Thursday, July 1 at 9:00 am (EDT) through Sunday, August 15 at 12:00 noon (EDT).
Results
Unless otherwise noted, placement results are provided in one of the following ways: 1) shown on-screen upon completion of the test, 2) posted to Canvas prior to the start of the semester, or 3) distributed by faculty from the department.
Technical Requirements for Online Testing
Please review the system recommendations for the OWL Testing system(link is external). The preferred browser is Google Chrome in Guest Mode. You should also use a current version of MacOS or Windows (not an electronic tablet or phone). Prior to taking the test, you can check that your system meets the requirements by first logging in(link is external), then navigating to Tools > Device Check.
