Professor John Merriman, 1946–2022

It is with great sadness that I write of the death of our colleague John Merriman that occurred on May 22, 2022. An imposing French historian, covering a territory that went from the 19^th century to the Belle Époque and beyond, the police and the Commune, the Left and the State, John Merriman was a beloved friend of the French department, a regular at our lectures and receptions.
